A post-Roe wave of anti-abortion legislation has placed a target on the backs of health care providers in states like Oklahoma, mandating them to comply with violations of their pregnant patients’ rights or to face fines, loss of medical licenses, harassment, and imprisonment.

This untenable “dual loyalty” situation, and its impacts on patient care, are detailed in our new report, “No One Could Say: Accessing Emergency Obstetrics Information as a Prospective Prenatal Patient in Post-Roe Oklahoma,” co-authored with Oklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice (OCRJ) and the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR).

Will you join us in demanding that Congress uphold human rights and protect the right to abortion in federal law? Send a letter directly to your representative and senators.

Enshrine the right to abortion in federal law!
To members of the U.S. Congress:

Following the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization in June 2022, people who can become pregnant in the United States and the health care providers who care for them are facing a human rights crisis. I urge you to work with your colleagues to enshrine the right to abortion in federal law.

Abortion restrictions imposed in the wake of Dobbs have deprived women, girls, and persons capable of pregnancy of their human rights to life, health, equality, privacy, and freedom from torture and ill-treatment.

Furthermore, the criminalization of abortion in many states has resulted in health care workers being threatened with imprisonment, professional sanction, fines, or harassment merely for providing their patients with ethical, high-quality medical care.

This untenable “dual loyalty” situation, and its impacts on patients’ access to information about healthcare, are detailed in a new report, “No One Could Say: Accessing Emergency Obstetrics Information as a Prospective Prenatal Patient in Post-Roe Oklahoma,” co-authored by Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), tOklahoma Call for Reproductive Justice (OCRJ), and the Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR).

Abortion is health care, and abortion rights are human rights that must be guaranteed without discrimination. The rights to reproductive autonomy and health are essential for individuals to survive, thrive, and live with dignity. Please uphold your international legal obligations and protect the right to abortion under federal law.

Sincerely,
