Please, support and protect those fleeing Afghanistan.
Dear President Biden,

Afghanistan is entering the kind of humanitarian crisis it has not seen in decades in the wake of the U.S. military pull-out. Given the two decades of U.S. involvement in this devastating conflict, the United States’ moral obligations do not end with its exit from the military theater in Afghanistan.

That is why I’m joining with Physicians for Human Rights to urge you to do everything in your power to ensure the safety of U.S. allies in Afghanistan and other at-risk Afghans who fear persecution or retaliation under the Taliban regime – including human rights defenders, women’s rights activists, journalists, and others.

Your administration has a moral and ethical duty to continue to secure safe passage for at-risk Afghans who wish to leave by expediting visas and removing bureaucratic barriers. Additionally, the United States and other governments must use all available international mechanisms to protect the human rights of the Afghan people now under Taliban rule.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
