Tell Congress: Keep Immigration Enforcement Out of Hospitals and Other Sensitive Locations

The Trump administration has eliminated protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations – like hospitals, clinics, schools, and churches – placing lives at risk.

In interviews with PHR, clinicians report that people in immigrant communities are delaying or avoiding critical medical care out of fear that seeking treatment could lead to their arrest or deportation.

Congress has the power to stop this. The Protecting Sensitive Locations Act would prohibit immigration enforcement in places where people seek essential care. Congress needs to hear from constituents like you to protect sensitive locations.

Please, add your name now to urge your members of Congress to pass this new legislation that would protect immigrants’ access to health and safety.

Keep immigration enforcement out of hospitals
To members of the U.S. Congress:

As your constituent, I’m gravely concerned by the Trump administration’s decision to remove protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like hospitals, clinics, and schools.

Physicians for Human Rights has conducted interviews with clinicians nationwide who report a chilling new reality: immigrants are delaying or avoiding critical medical care out of fear that seeking treatment could lead to their arrest or deportation. The result is worsening health outcomes for communities across the country.

I’m urging you to take action and pass the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act (H.R.1061) introduced in the House of Representatives in February 2025. This legislation would prohibit immigration enforcement in places where people seek essential health care.

Health care institutions and providers have a critical role to play in protecting access to care and fostering a culture of safety, trust, and ethical practice. Institutions must create environments where clinicians are empowered to uphold medical ethics without fear, and where all patients, regardless of immigration status, can seek care safely.

Please, help clinicians do their jobs to provide ethical, evidence-based care to all who walk through their doors.

Sincerely,
