Reauthorize Access To Syrian Border Crossing

Today, the Bab al-Hawa border crossing along the Syria-Turkey frontier is the only remaining entry point for UN humanitarian aid to northern Syria.

Six million Syrians rely on this crossing for access to food and health care. But without UN Security Council reauthorization, the crossing is set to close on July 10.

We can’t let this happen. Add your name today to let the U.S. Mission to the UN know that you want the Security Council to extend the border crossing authorization the Bab al-Hawa crossing immediately.

To Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield:
Six million Syrians are counting on humanitarian aid for access to food and medical supplies. We cannot allow the Bab al-Hawa border crossing to close, as it would have dire consequences on the health and safety of millions of Syrians.

I’m asking you to organize the necessary support in the Security Council to renew the cross-border resolution 2165 to maintain the Bab al-Hawa border crossing in northwest Syria beyond one year. In addition, I urge you to organize support to reopen the Bab al-Salam and al-Yorubiya border crossings to meet the demonstrated need of the population, considering Syria’s failing health system and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

We cannot rely on the Syrian government to be the sole distributor of humanitarian aid. It has proved again and again that it will withhold aid and medical care as part of its campaign of oppression against the Syrian people.

I urge you to call upon the Syrian government to ensure the delivery of aid and allocation of health services so that the WHO and other UN agencies, as well as humanitarian organizations and local actors, can reach populations in a neutral, effective, and equitable manner.

The eyes of the world are on you and all the members of the Security Council. We cannot stand by and let millions of Syrians suffer. Please, do everything in your power to ensure humanitarian aid makes it to those who need it.
